STORY: The Houthi military said Sunday they attacked a US oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

This came as US and British forces said they carried out another round of attacks against Yemeni militants on Saturday.

In a televised speech, a military spokesman for the Iran-backed Houthis, Yahya Sarea, said their navy attacked the U.S.-owned and operated commercial ship MV Torm Thor, while the air force targeted U.S. warships in the Red Sea with drones. .

The Yemeni Armed Forces “will not stop unless the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted,” he said.

US Central Command said in a statement on X-Day that its forces shot down an anti-ship ballistic missile that was likely targeting the tanker, adding that the ship was not damaged.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense on Saturday released a video showing Typhoon fighter jets and Voyager tankers in operation for the latest round of joint military action against the Houthis.

The countries involved said in a joint statement that the strikes targeted 18 militant targets in eight locations in Yemen.

The United States and Britain have again designated the Houthis as a terrorist group after they began attacking commercial ships in November to protest Israel’s war on Gaza.

The United States has carried out almost daily attacks against the Houthis but has so far failed to stop them, disrupting global trade and raising shipping rates.
