Times Square has been the scene of several violent crimes in recent weeks involving immigrants, including the beating of a pair of New York police officers by a mob.

Several immigrants have been charged in that incident in which they kicked and punched officers after they were told to move down 42nd Street last month. Many of them were initially released without bail after their arrest, prompting harsh criticism of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
