A small plane carrying two people landed safely after missing a gate mid-flight over a public park, according to police.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 pm when Cheektowaga Police and Fire officials received a call for assistance from Buffalo International Airport in New York.

“A small plane carrying two people reported losing a door while flying over the Stiglmeier Park area in Cheektowaga,” the Cheektowaga Police Department said in a released statement describing the mid-air incident. “The plane is reported to have landed safely.”

Officers later searched the area where the door fell, but have so far been unable to locate it. No one reported any damage or injuries following the incident.

No one has reported property damage or injuries as a result of the incident, police said.

Authorities did not say what may have caused the door to fall off the plane, but the investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
