Several people died after a small plane crashed into a mobile home in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday night, a fire official said.

At a news conference, Clearwater Fire Chief Scott Ehlers confirmed that the deaths were those involved in the plane crash and the house where the plane crashed.

Clearwater police are on scene, working with the medical examiner’s office. They are also conducting a preliminary investigation to hand it over to a federal partner, Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy said.

Fire of clear waters & Rescue said the team received a call about the accident at 7:08 p.m. ET. They arrived at the scene seven minutes later.

The FAA confirmed that a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 was the plane that crashed. It happened after the pilot reported engine failure, the FAA said.

In a briefing Thursday night, officials said the plane went off radar about three miles north of the airport runway, which is where the mobile home park is located.

Four homes were trapped in the fire, but firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, officials said.
